Youth Development

The Bethlehem Centers Youth Development Program offers several areas of opportunity for youth ages 12 to 18 to learn skills that will positively influence them personally, academically, and professionally. These programs provide such skills as hands on job training through summer internships, drug and alcohol prevention, self esteem building, and health and physical fitness.

Slammin Jammin City Camp:

Ages: Serving youth ages 13 to17 years old
Program offered June through August of each year
The Slammin Jammin City Camp offers a comprehensive curriculum that concentrates on the history and development of our great city. It also provides a camping adventure, academic enrichment, sports and recreation, swimming, other field trips and more.
Hours: Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Vocational Success Institute (VSI):

Ages:
Serving youth ages 16 to 18 years old
Program offered June through August of each year
The VSI Program provides job training and readiness skills for youth interested in workforce and career development. Students are trained for a number of weeks before being placed within a local company where they learn hands on what it is like to be in a real work environment. Applications are available at the BCN Charlotte Avenue location
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Fee: There is no fee for this program

Say Yes To Success (SYTS):

Ages: Serving youth ages 9 to 17 years old
Program Dates: Sessions meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays
Description: A drug and alcohol prevention and intervention program for youth.
Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 10:00am - 12:00noon (Metro Schools)/Community Outreach

STARS of Bethlehem Club

Ages: Serving middle school aged youth
Program Dates: During the School Year
Hours: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Enrollment: 25 slots

Description: The STARS of Bethlehem Club reinforces academic achievement and the importance of a healthy lifestyle by providing tutors, educational and cultural enrichment activities and physical fitness programs.

Just Between Girls:

Ages: Females ages 9-14 years old
Information: Session information is covered during outreach services at Metro Schools
Description: A program designed to help young and adolescent girls with life skills, manners, etiquette and areas of prevention.
Hours: Mon-Thurs. 9:00am-2:00pm (Bass Middle School)

Too Smart To Start (TSTS):

Ages: Serving youth ages 9-13 years old
Program Dates: School Year 2005-2006
School Sites: Bass Middle School (Tuesday and Thursdays) Napier School (Monday and Wednesdays
Description: The Too Smart To Start Program is an underage drinking prevention program for youth. The program will provide education on the harms and effects of alcohol, video education and other activities that promote the avoidance of alcohol consumption.

BCN "Shooting Stars" Program:

Ages: 5 1/2 to 11 years old
Program Dates: May 27 - August 8, 2008
Description: A BCN summer program offering academic enrichment, field trips, sports and recreation, arts and crafts, library activities and more!
Fee: $65 - $130 per week per child (BCN accepts childcare vouchers from state agencies such as DHS, Families First, etc.)

Safe and Sound Program

Ages: For children, youth and adults
Program Dates / Hours: Year-round; Monday - Thursday 6 to 9 p.m. & Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Program Description: The Safe and Sound Program offers the community a chance to enjoy the BCN facility after normal working hours.  Residents and community organizations have access to educational and informative workshops and fun activities designed to address neighborhood needs.
